FAX WITH VOICE OVER IP (VoIP)
Trying to send a fax using an internet phone can give the average person quite a headache.
Almost everyone who has ever tried to use their fax machine with a Voice over IP
(VoIP) service knows that there can be times when faxing is just not very reliable. Here are the
key points to remember when trying to send that important fax, and also ways to make your fax machine more compatible with the future of technology! All of these things can help you to fax more reliably with your VoIP phone.
1. Are you experiencing any audio problems (choppy, one way audio, dropped calls, static)?
If so, deal with the audio problems first before trying to fix the faxing issue.
2. Does the fax machine have a dial tone?
3. Is the fax machine connected to a splitter?
4. Is the fax machine plugged into the wall or directly to the VoIP device? Try connecting the phone cable direct to your VoIP device.
5. Is the VoIP device using a surge protector? If so, try plugging it directly into a wall socket.
6. Change the baud rate of your fax to 9600kbps, set the resolution to standard, and turn off ECM (error correction mode). See fax machine optimization and manuals below for directions.
